As part of the ongoing STELLA project (Sport as a Tool for Environmental Sustainability Learning), TDM2000 Malta proudly hosted a highly successful Training of Trainers course from the 9th to the 15th of March 2025 in Pembroke. The training brought together 20 youth workers from Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Malta, and Portugal for a week of learning, exchange, and collaboration.
This Erasmus+ KA220 initiative focuses on equipping youth workers with innovative tools to promote environmental sustainability through sport-based non-formal education. The training in Malta was a key milestone in this effort, designed to empower participants with practical skills and methodologies they can apply within their local contexts.
Sport and Sustainability in Action
Throughout the week, youth workers explored how sport can serve as an engaging and accessible platform for sustainability education. The programme combined theoretical knowledge with active, hands-on experiences—including interactive sessions in football, volleyball, and even a nighttime treasure hunt in Malta’s historic old town.
Participants worked in a dynamic and supportive setting, examining the role of the trainer and engaging in practical exercises to design and deliver their own sport-based workshops focused on environmental themes. These sessions were followed by evaluations that helped refine their facilitation techniques and enhance impact.
Building for the Future
One of the key outcomes of this training is the development of a practical toolkit, which will include the best workshop models created during the training. This resource will ensure that the impact of the training extends well beyond the event, supporting youth workers in engaging young people through sport and sustainability for years to come.
The success of the training was evident in the high level of participation, creativity, and teamwork demonstrated throughout the programme. The experience not only fostered professional growth but also built strong connections among youth workers from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
We’re proud of the results and thankful to all the participants for their energy and commitment.
