The European Union highlights the strong link between sustainability and sport as essential for advancing both environmental responsibility and social cohesion. By encouraging sustainable practices within sports organisations and events, the EU seeks not only to reduce the ecological footprint of sport but also to harness its unifying power to raise awareness about climate change. EU Sport Policy places particular focus on sustainable infrastructure, environmentally friendly event management, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Within this framework, the “STELLA” project – Sport as a Tool for Environmental Sustainability Learning – is designed to provide young people and activists with the skills and resources needed to embrace sustainable behaviours and reduce their environmental impact at community level. The project also supports youth workers and leaders across five countries, enabling them to engage and educate young people on sustainability while fostering active citizenship and social entrepreneurship.
