Celebrating 20 Years of TDM 2000 Malta
On Saturday, 8th March 2025, we at TDM 2000 Malta proudly marked a significant milestone—our 20th anniversary since our official founding. This momentous occasion brought together our members, alumni, local and international partners, and distinguished guests to celebrate two decades of impact, growth, and youth empowerment. Hosted at the stunning Maria Rosa Wine Estate in Attard, the evening was a heartfelt tribute to our journey as an organisation that has transformed the lives of countless young people through international exchanges, training programmes, and community initiatives.
The night was filled with reflections, gratitude, and inspiration, as speakers shared highlights from our evolution—from humble beginnings to becoming a key player in youth development, both locally and internationally. The celebration was further enriched by outstanding performances from talented local artists, including Kevin Paul Calleja and the band SKARLET, who brought vibrant energy and spirit to the evening.
A Journey of Growth and Impact
Our story began in 2004 when three young Maltese individuals participated in an exchange programme in Sardinia. That experience sparked a powerful idea: what if we could create more opportunities for young people in Malta to engage in international learning and cultural exchange? What began as an informal group of passionate youth meeting in Swieqi soon evolved into a structured organisation. By March 2005, we officially founded TDM 2000 Malta—setting in motion a journey that has since seen us complete over 190 projects in nearly 60 countries.
Over the years, we have remained committed to fostering youth development through Erasmus+ and other international programmes. Whether through educational initiatives, cultural exchanges, or philanthropic efforts, we’ve impacted thousands of young people—equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences to become active citizens in their communities.
An Evening of Gratitude and Reflection
The evening began with a warm welcome from our Vice President, Julia Zammit Galea Testaferrata, who set the tone for the celebration by acknowledging the dedication of everyone who has contributed to our journey. She also recognised the significance of International Women’s Day, which coincided with our celebration and paid tribute to the achievements and resilience of women around the world.
A special message from the President of the European Parliament, Dr. Roberta Metsola, was shared, expressing her appreciation for our continued commitment to youth empowerment. MEP Thomas Bajada also conveyed his support for our ongoing efforts.
We were honored by the presence of representatives from TDM International and TDM Italy, including Presidents Angelica Perra and Luca Frongia, whose unwavering collaboration has played a vital role in our success. Their support reaffirmed the strong bonds we share with international partners who believe in creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Additional guests, including MP Hon. David Agius, Prof. Arnold Cassola, and Mr. Mario Sammut from the European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta, joined us to highlight the broader significance of our work in promoting youth engagement and empowerment at both local and European levels.
Our Commitment to Philanthropy
Philanthropy has always been one of our core values. Over the past year alone, we have supported 20 different NGOs and charities—providing both financial and in-kind support. True to this commitment, our anniversary celebration also served as a platform to raise donations for Dar tal-Providenza, a local charity supporting individuals with disabilities. Fr. Martin, representing the organisation, expressed his heartfelt thanks for the generosity and continuous support shown by TDM 2000 Malta.
Looking Towards the Future
The final speech of the evening was delivered by our President, Duncan Muscat, who concluded the night by reaffirming our mission. He emphasised the vital importance of youth participation in society—locally and internationally—as a driver of meaningful change.
Duncan reminded us that it is through this missionand our determination to create impactful opportunities for young people that we continue to make a difference. Through engagement, mobility, and education, we remain committed to empowering youth and ensuring their voices are heard on both national and global stages.
