Malta Exchange - September 2006

dateFrom: 17/9/2007 To: 24/9/2007

« back to overview

Let's take a trip down memory lane and get all nostalgic about the learning experiences, fun times and intercultural learning ... which were all a fundamental part of our last exchange 'Destination Unknown'. If this looks like fun, just wait for 'Life in the Fast Lane'...

TDM 2000 Malta is pulling out all the stops to host on of the best exchanges you are sure to experience this year!! The topic to be dealt with is HEALTH in all its forms and guises. This exchange will be challenging for all participants – it deals with some light hearted but important issues such as physical health and fitness. But we are also going to delve into a more sinister side of a youth’s life – drug and alcohol abuse and sexual health.

Malta Exchange 2006

This exchange will not only bring these problems to the fore, but it will also provide the perfect opportunity for youth from across Europe to meet and exchange their own experiences and views.

Despite the sensitivity of some of the subjects, TDM 2000 Malta firmly believes that these issues must be addressed, and the best way of doing this is through informal education. Practical sessions such as yoga and healthy cooking will feature strongly throughout the exchange. Plenty of time will also be dedicated to integration, discussions and the creative expression of what is being learnt.

Here is a quick overview of our action packed program…….

Initial activities will be dedicated to Breaking the Ice and Integration activities. The aim is to ensure that all participants are at ease with each other, which is essential considering the sensitivity of some of the topics.

Once this has been achieved, the focus will be on fitness and mental health. The exploration of these topics will be active and fun with one session dedicated to assessing fitness levels (so get ready to MOVE!!) and another session dedicated to the ancient practice of YOGA. You will need it by the end of the exchange ;P

Things will move up a gear with sessions dedicated to exploring the prevailing trends drug and alcohol use and abuse, both from a European level as well as on the local level.

The next topic to be tackled is no less sensitive – sexual health. Education is critical in this area - youth should not hide behind a smokescreen and plead ignorance. STDs and unwanted pregnancies have widespread effects both on the individual and on society on the whole. Forewarned is forearmed.

Never fear!!! Fun and games are never far away with Global Villages, Boat Trips, Vox Pops and Cooking Competitions……Watch this space ladies and gentleman, and gear yourselves up for the exchange of a lifetime!!!
